These ‘meeting places’ - performances and installations – are designed as seductive, visual environments. Here the artists invite their audience to experiment and play with social technologies – and to reflect on their own perception of body, identity, community and alienation. Lancel en Maat research contemporary social systems in a mediated society. For every ‘meeting place’ the artists develop an especially designed montage of physical and virtual interaction. Through their ‘meeting places’ Lancel and Maat show social portraits of urban mediated life. Karen Lancel en Hermen Maat ontwerpen ‘ontmoetingsplekken’ voor de publieke ruimte. Deze ‘ontmoetingsplekken’ zijn performances en installaties, die zij ontwerpen als verleidelijke, visuele omgevingen. Hier nodigen de kunstenaars het publiek uit om te experimenteren en spelen, met sociale technologieën; om zo te reflecteren op hun eigen perceptie van lichaam, identiteit, community en vervreemding. Lancel en Maat onderzoeken sociale systemen in een gemediatiseerde samenleving. Voor elke ‘ontmoetingsplek’ ontwerpen de kunstenaars een speciale montage van fysieke en virtuele interactie. De ‘ontmoetingsplekken’ tonen sociale portretten van leven een gemediatiseerde, stedelijke omgeving.
